Salted Pretzels From Matzah Flour

A twist on a beloved crunchy snack!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp vinegar
  • 4 tbsp oil
  • 1 cup matzah flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tbsp sesame
  • 1 tbsp caraway seeds
  • 80g cheese crumbs

For Brushing:

Instructions:

  1. Pour the water, salt, sugar, vinegar, and oil into a pot and boil
  2. Add the matzah flour while mixing quickly. Mix well until the dough isn’t sticking to the sides of the pot
  3. Remove from heat and add one egg at a time while stirring (remember to save one for brushing later)
  4. Add the cheese and the seeds, stirring vigorously until a homogenous paste is obtained

Shape the dough:

In this recipe, I shape the dough in one of two ways:

  1. Wet your hands, then take a dough ball and create a hole in the center. Slowly widen the hole and place the dough on an oven pan lined with baking paper
  2. Wet your hands, then take a large chunk of dough and place on baking paper. Roll it out until it’s even and spread out over the paper, then cut into slices with a pizza cutter or knife

Brushing:

  1. Mix the sesame and coarse salt together into one mixture and keep to side
  2. Beat one egg
  3. Brush the pretzels with the egg
  4. Either dip pretzels in the mixture or sprinkle on top of pretzels

Baking:

  1. Bake in an oven preheated to 180C for about 30 minutes
  2. Let it cool, then enjoy!

Be sure to store in a hermetically sealed container to eat later!
