Flaky Buttery Cheese Straws

A simple yet perfect snack that you and your family will go crazy for!

Ingredients:

  • 500g plain flour
  • 7g instant yeast
  • 10g salt
  • 350ml lukewarm water
  • 120g grated chedder
  • 80g grated parmesan
  • 80g cold butter
  • Optional: Herbs (I used thyme, but you can use anything you like!)

Instructions:

  1. Mix flour, yeast and salt. Add water and stir well – dough will moisten as you mix
  2. Add cheese, combine, then cover and rest 30 minutes
  3. Grate cold butter into dough and fold gently six times. Cover and refrigerate for a few hours or overnight
  4. Preheat oven to 250C with a water dish for steam
  5. Gently stretch dough on floured surface and cut into 12 pieces. Twist each piece 1 or 2 times, place on parchment paper
  6. Rest 30 minutes, covered. Bake for 10 minutes, then reduce oven temperature to 230C, remove the water and bake for another 10 minutes
  7. Flip, then bake another 5-7 minutes till golden

To display, you can put the bread sticks in an open jar for easy grabbing!
